We, at BioBus, are very excited to welcome volunteers from Alexandria Center for Life Science to join us in sharing the joy of scientific exploration with NYC children and youth. No previous experience is necessary to take part in this program.
The following opportunities will be available for Alexandria Center volunteers throughout Spring 2020:
- Teaching assistance at mobile lab school visits: Our solar-powered mobile laboratories travel all around NYC, bringing the excitement of scientific discovery to students at a different school every day. Volunteers will assist BioBus scientists in guiding student exploration aboard the mobile lab. These school visits generally take place on weekdays between 7AM and 3PM.
- Running a microscope station at public/community events: We also bring our mobile labs to various public and community events throughout the city. Volunteers will be leading a microscope station during such events, which usually take place during evenings or weekends.
- Sharing a scientific skill with BioBus high school interns: We have five budding scientists from East Side Community High School, who are participating in our year-long paid internship program, conducting their own research, as well as learning more about different science careers. Selected volunteers will attend one of the internship sessions and give a short talk about their research and/or career path, as well as share a scientific skill with the interns. These sessions take place Mondays and Wednesdays at 3:30 – 5:30 PM through May.
If you are interested in taking part in one or more of these volunteer opportunities, please fill out the form below by March 13th. All volunteers are asked to attend the training/orientation session aboard BioBus at the Alexandria Center on March 17th. Even if you are not sure if you will be able to volunteer this spring, we recommend that you fill out the form below and attend the first hour of the training session.
Please contact Sedef Tinaztepe at email@example.com or (201)743-8338 if you have any questions.
