Who’s in control? What learning processes influence your actions, decisions, and motivated behavior?
Celebrate science and summer with BioBus! Use research microscopes and science tools to learn more about the world around you, explore BioBus labs and enjoy refreshments. Our guest speaker will take their research out of the lab and explain how it relates to our lives!
Guest Speaker: Catherine Hartley, Ph.D.
What is motivated behavior? What informs your actions? We all seek to avoid negative experiences and receive rewards. There are many forms of learning responsible for our decision making and behaviors, and these learning processes change as we grow up. Dr. Hartley will explain all of this and help you understand what’s going on in our brains! She will talk about the distinction between goal-directed actions, habits, and pavlovian reactions, giving examples of when these change behaviors in our everyday lives, while presenting data on their underpinnings in the brain.
