The Exploratorium, in partnership with the Fletcher Laboratory at UC Berkeley, BioBus, and the Noyo Center for Marine Science, oversees Seeing Scientifically 2.0 (SS2), a project for engaging the public in authentic scientific observation of biological phenomena. The Seeing Scientifically Pathways project exhibits help informal learners bridge the conceptual gap between everyday observation and authentic scientific observation. Learners will be able to:
(1) ask productive questions (i.e. those answerable through observation) that are meaningful to them
(2) interpret what they see using tools provided in the interface
(3) connect their observations with biological concepts to build a more coherent understanding of the content
The BioBus team is training the technology to help identify parts of micro animals to facilitate independent learning and discovery. Our experience with micro-organisms, microscopes, and the conversations that spur learning allow us to apply this innovative technology into the most impactful settings to help everyone experience the wonder of the microscopic world.
